The Battle of Blair Mountain | Common Dreams

The Battle of Blair Mountain | Common Dreams

It never ceases to amaze me that the 2nd and 3rd generation descendants of those men and women that lived such hard lives are now supporters of right wing political tyrants. Right here in Oklahoma the home state of  Woody Guthrie, and the home of my family that were union organizers.
It seems people born after WWII don't have a clue about what went on just 70 years ago. I suppose that I could allow myself the luxury of cynicism by knowing that this is the generation and media dominated minds, conditioned for fads to change every week or so. Yet somehow I'm still rooting for the good old common sense that used to be standard issued equipment for the common everyman of rural America. I just have to drive down any dirt road in the back corners of Okmulgee county to see that it still thrives. I do have to admit the back corners are getting smaller though.
Well, since your here, go ahead and read this short history lesson. It may even be a part of your own family's background. Talk to your familiy elderlies and find out. If you get a chance, check and see if it will be shown again on your local PBS station. In the mean time, if your so inclined, look towards the practical side of life, and enjoy the gifts that you can stumble over everyday. You might very well miss them if your daydreaming about winning the lottery.
